    Telehealth

Life Transitions Counseling LCSW, PLLC is an entirely telehealth-based practice offering both audio-video and audio-only sessions. All sessions must be within the State of New York since this is where we’re licensed.

Telehealth services may be among the most essential innovations of the modern age. Particularly due to the pandemic, telehealth has become a reliable way for many people to receive the care and support they require. Research now demonstrates how, in most situations, telehealth proves just as effective as in-person therapy sessions.

    What Is Telehealth?

Telehealth therapy sessions, sometimes called teletherapy, refers to remote therapy sessions conducted primarily through internet connectivity and sometimes audio phone calls. Telehealth uses technology to overcome many of the limitations imposed by time and geography — and they allow a greater number of patients to receive the treatments they seek. For any number of reasons, it might be challenging to travel and attend an in-person therapy session, or you may simply find it more convenient to meet with a therapist from the familiarity and comfort of your home. Consequently, technology has changed mental healthcare forever.

Our practice prioritizes client privacy and security. We use TherapyNotes™ to keep your records safe and secure. The software is HIPAA-compliant and uses a PCI-compliant system for credit card processing, with a first-class security infrastructure. Likewise, it adheres to all regulatory requirements as well as best practices in the mental health industry.

    How Does Telehealth Work?

What can you expect from your telehealth appointment? Just like a traditional appointment, your therapist will meet with you at a designated date and time. However, you’ll be engaging with one another through an easy-to-use video platform you will access through a secure client portal. The portal can also be used to manage appointments, complete paperwork, and make payments.

After scheduling your session, when it’s time to meet with your therapist, you will open your client portal, log in with your registered credentials (the email and password specified when you set up your portal account), and click Join Session. If you are a new client, a welcome email will be sent with instructions for creating an account to obtain access to your private client portal.

    Preparing for Your Appointment

Here are some recommendations for a seamless telehealth session:

    • Attend your session in a private safe space. If you are in a car, you should not be driving.
    • Do what you can to preemptively reduce or eliminate disruptions.
    • Make sure you have access to a reliable internet connection.
    • Use a device with a camera, microphone, compatible web browser, and internet access, such as a computer, tablet, or smartphone.
    • Be sure that you’re using an up-to-date web browser like the latest version of Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Apple Safari, or Mozilla Firefox.
    • Close any other applications that might be running on your computer.
    • Check that your device is plugged in or fully charged.
    • Wear a two-ear headset with a microphone.
    • Position a light near your computer or tablet, or find a well-lit room for the session.
